A Texas baker says she received death threats after selling a batch of cookies featuring vice presidential candidate Tim Walz’s face.
Haley Popp put the limited-run treats on sale at her The Hive bakery in Flower Mound, which has been in business since 2018.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘We only have a few dozen! Order online or come see us!
While they sold out quickly, what came next was much more negative and, for Popp, than expected.
Popp received bitter messages ranging from criticizing his physical appearance to hoping his bakery “and all the gay people” would burn down.

While the treats sold out quickly, what came next was much more negative and, for Popp, as expected.
The baker saw this happen in the past when she was the target of a series of cookies for LGBTQ Pride Month.
Of the response to her cookies, she said: “This business is just an extension of who I am, and I don’t think I should be quiet.” I have built this platform. Why shouldn’t I use it?’

Popp, an occasional contestant on the Food Network reality show, says she was told to “shut up and bake” and refused.
‘I will never post anything driven by hate. “I literally only post pictures of cookies and that will get me a death threat,” he told Dallas Morning News.
She claims to have been threatened in every way, from shouts on the phone and online, to letters written from magazine clippings.
It has never hurt his business to lean into politics and that has only maintained his determination to speak out about what matters to him.
‘You can’t silence people who want to speak. I think a lot of small businesses should start being more authentic themselves. “It is no way to live if you are simply silenced,” he said.

Other small businesses often try to network with her and commiserate over similar harassment experiences.
‘We have an army of people behind us. “We are not alone in this community.”
Bakers often try to get in the spirit of things as elections approach, including an Ohio bakery that’s trying to correctly predict the outcome of the 2024 election by selling candidate-themed treats.
Busken Bakery in Cincinnati has only been wrong once in the last 40 years when predicting the results of the presidential race.
The store’s various locations sell cookies with the faces of both candidates, as well as a third-way ‘Cookie Party’ option with a smiley face, and keep score in an attempt to predict who will win in November.
So far, the store’s story could be big news for Donald Trump, who has outsold Kamala Harris cookies by 2,953 to 2,134.
It’s always important to note that potential third-party candidates play an important role, as the ‘Cookie Party’ giveaway has sold 397 ‘votes’ so far.
A Pennsylvania bakery is also using cookies to help predict the winner of the 2024 presidential election.
Kamala-is-brat-themed delights from Popp or one of the several bakers who have gotten into the election baking spirit.
Some bakeries, like Busken Bakery in Cincinnati, are using sales of Trump- and Harris-themed cookies to predict the election.
Lochel’s Bakery in Hatboro is tracking sales of its red Trump cookies and blue Harris cookies as customers across the United States place orders in favor of the candidate of their choice.
Bakery owner Kathleen Lochel has been sharing the progress of her sweet experiment on social media, noting today that “political cookies are sold out for Saturday.”
As of Friday morning, the small business had sold a total of 5,200 Trump cookies compared to just 500 Harris cookies.
