This is the terrifying moment an Air Canada Boeing plane bursts into flames seconds after takeoff.

Video footage shows the plane gaining altitude before a right engine light flashes and the tail of the plane becomes engulfed in flames, the result of a small explosion.

The terrifying experience took place thirty minutes after departure, as the plane left Toronto’s Pearson Airport on Wednesday night bound for Paris, France.

Witnesses on the ground were horrified when one of them was heard saying: ‘Shit! The engine is on fire!’ Sun reported.

No crew members or the 389 passengers on the flight were injured. The air crew landed the plane safely.

According to a company representative, the fire was due to a problem with the engine compressor.

Additionally, they stated that “the aircraft will be removed from service for further evaluation by our maintenance and engineering professionals.”

The airline told media outlet CP24 that after “the aircraft landed, it was inspected by airport response vehicles per normal operational processes, and proceeded to the gate on its own.”

The aircraft will be inspected and repaired before being used again.

Flight tracker FlightAware said the plane left the gate at 8:46 p.m. but turned around and landed at the same airport at 9:50 p.m.

The passengers were placed on another flight that same night, according to airline officials.

The plane is shown taking off at approximately 8:46 p.m. Wednesday before making an emergency landing at 9:50 p.m.

According to Global News, this was the second incident to take place at Toronto’s Pearson Airport shortly after takeoff in the past two weeks.

On May 27, a flight leaving Toronto bound for Delhi, India, encountered an engine problem that forced the plane to divert.

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft has been with the airline since March 2008, according to Media Drum World.

Air Canada has 19 such aircraft, all of which are in active service.
