Taylor Swift sent royal fans into a frenzy when she appeared to take inspiration from the Princess of Wales’s style at last night’s Grammys.

The pop sensation, 34, made history last night when she became the first artist to win four Album of the Year awards, having previously been tied with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon for the record.

For the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the singer, who announced her new album The Tortured Poets Department at the awards, wore a strapless white dress with a square neck and a thigh-high slit.

Arriving on the red carpet, Taylor was photographed wearing a pair of black velvet opera gloves, which reminded royal watchers of Kate Middleton’s outfit at last year’s BAFTAs in London.

Last February, the Princess of Wales, 42, altered an old white one-shouldered Alexander McQueen dress for the awards and completed her look with black opera gloves.

Shortly after Taylor arrived at the awards, royal fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, commented on how closely the pop star’s outfit resembled Kate’s BAFTA 2023 look.

One gushed: ‘Taylor Swift giving Catherine, Princess of Wales vibes and looking amazing!’

“Taylor knows red carpet style when she sees it,” another added.

A third said: ‘As soon as I saw her I thought of the Princess of Wales. (It’s) such a (fiery) look.’

“Two beautiful, classy women twinning,” a fourth responded.

Meanwhile, a fifth claimed: “Taylor Swift was inspired by Princess Catherine for her Grammys outfit.”

In November 2023, Prince William joked that he would join Ronnie Wood on tour if “Taylor Swift was there.”

Prince William, 41, and the Rolling Stones member, 76, met in London at the Tusk Conservation Awards, which recognize leading wildlife pioneers, and are both long-time supporters of the organizers of the event, the Africa-based charity Tusk Trust.

Wood said after his chat with the future king: “We were talking about the tour and I said ‘come on, you’ve got to go on tour’ and we were talking about the new album and all that. William said he would do it if we could take Taylor Swift over there”.

Eight years later, William admitted he obeyed “like a puppy” when glamorous pop star Swift ordered him on stage for an impromptu performance with Jon Bon Jovi.

Recalling a fundraising gala in November 2013 for homeless charity Centrepoint, a cause first championed by his late mother Princess Diana, the prince said: “I can’t believe I’m actually telling you this story… I show up and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which almost knocks me over.

‘And then, I came in, I met everyone, there was a lot of handshaking those nights, a lot of chatting. I try to be charming and interactive. Every once in a while, you’re not having a good day and it’s a little harder to get by.

“When I sat down to watch Jon Bon Jovi do his performance, I thought, ‘That’s it. My work is done. I’ll have dinner in a minute and maybe I can chat with some people, and, you know, I’m a little out of order now.”

Accepting the award for Album of the Year, Taylor said: ‘I want to thank the fans by telling them a secret that I’ve been keeping from them for the last two years, which is that my new album arrives on April 19.’

‘It’s called The Department of the Tortured Poet. I’m going to go post the cover right now backstage.

Staying true to her word minutes later, Taylor, who also earned her fourth Album of the Year at the show, shared the racy cover of her upcoming 11th studio album, which sees her lying on a bed wearing black underwear and a sheer black blouse, and caused her Instagram page to temporarily go down.

Just after leaving the stage, the album's bold cover art, titled The Tortured Poet's Department, was shared on her Instagram page.

Swift began her speech by sharing that it was her 13th win, a number she considers lucky.

‘Okay, this is my 13th Grammy. What is my lucky number. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you that.

“I want to thank the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way, but I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans.”

Minutes after leaving the stage, the artwork for the new album was shared on his Instagram, with the caption: ‘All’s fair in love and poetry… New album THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. Available April 19 (white heart emoji).’

He also posted a photo of a handwritten note that read: ‘And so I come into evidence / My tarnished shield / My muses, acquired like bruises / My talismans and amulets / The tick, tick, tick of love bombs / My ink veins black as a wolf’s mouth / In love and poetry all is fair…’

She signed the text with: “Sincerely, the president of the Department of Tortured Poets.”

The album announcement received over 7 million likes in just one hour.
