An investigation has been launched after a football match between two countries ended in chaos on Saturday.

Video footage has circulated on social media showing fans storming the pitch and throwing punches in a wild post-match brawl involving Panton Hill and Bundoora under-19 players at Cracknell Reserve.

The fight broke out after the last siren and passersby decided to get involved, breaking into the scene and escalating the violence.

The footage shows at least three of the thugs involved in the fight, with one seen throwing several punches and knocking a Panton Hill player to the ground.

The fight ended when players, referees and officials divided the antagonists.

The Northern Football and Netball League has launched an investigation and it is not yet clear whether the spectators involved are registered players with the league.

NFNL manager of football operations Jeff Downes and league president Scott Walker were on the field when the ugly incident unfolded.

“The NFNL is aware of an incident that took place following the conclusion of the Panton Hill and Bundoora U19.5 match on Saturday morning,” the league said in a statement.

“The league has launched an investigation into the matter and will not provide further comment at this time.”

The incident also halted Panton Hill celebrations after the under-19 team claimed their first win since reforming in 2023.

Panton Hill chairman Jayson Burleigh said the club is in the process of preparing witness statements and intends to fully cooperate with the league’s investigation.

He also revealed that the player who was hit by the intruder did not suffer serious injuries.

His Bundoora counterpart Paul King also confirmed the club was taking the shocking matter seriously.

“The league is investigating the matter and Bundoora FNC will fully cooperate throughout the process,” it said.
