With India’s coal and lignite production crossing the 1 billion tonne mark for the first time in 2023-24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hailed it as a remarkable achievement and a historic milestone.
According to official figures, India’s total coal and lignite production in the fiscal year 2022-23 stood at 937 million tonnes.
“A remarkable achievement. Crossing the 1 billion tonnes mark of coal and lignite production marks a historic milestone for India, which reflects our commitment to ensuring a vibrant coal sector. This also ensures India’s path to Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in a vital sector,” says Modi. said in a post on X.
Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi also praised the achievement.
“Proud to share that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have achieved a great achievement by crossing the 1 billion tonne coal and lignite production mark,” he said.
