A new program titled The Disappearance of Gabby Petito will air on ITVX on Thursday 9 May and will explore the investigation surrounding her disappearance.

Gabby, a vlogger who was murdered at the age of 22 by her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, was one of the most recognizable names across America after her death.

The new documentary series follows the twists and turns of the investigation and tells the story of a mysterious murder.

Interviews with Gabby’s parents reveal the torment of being a family at the center of such a case, while there are also contributions from Internet sleuths who dedicated their online lives to solving her disappearance.

In May 2023, CNN obtained a letter written by Brian’s mother, Roberta Laundrie, in which she wrote that she would help him “dispose of a body” or “bake a pie with a key lime” to help him in jail.

Roberta claimed the letter was written before her son’s trip with Petito, and one of her lawyers issued a statement saying it had “no relationship with Gabby.”

However, these claims have been disputed by Petito’s family.

The envelope containing the letter said “burn after reading” and was recovered from Brian Laundrie’s backpack when his remains were found in October 2021.

The letter also contains quotes from the Romans Bible passage. ‘Nothing can separate us; “Neither hate, nor hunger, nor homelessness, nor threats, nor even sin, nor the imaginable or unthinkable can come between us,” he reads.

The full language of the letter was revealed nearly two years after the young couple embarked on a cross-country trip that was widely documented on social media.

Petito’s remains were found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest in September 2021 and his death was ruled a homicide by manual strangulation.

On October 20, 2021, Brian Laundrie’s remains were found and it was later concluded that he had shot himself.

Later, the FBI was able to discover that he had written in a notebook that he was responsible for Mrs. Petito’s death.

Complete letter written by Brian Laundrie’s mother before Gabby Petito’s death

‘I just want you to remember that I will always love you and I know that you will always love me.

‘You are my boy. Nothing can make me stop loving you.’

“Nothing will or can divide us: no matter what we do, where we go, or what we say, we will always love one another.”

‘If you’re in jail, I’ll bake a cake with a lime. If you need to dispose of a dead body, I’ll show you a shovel and garbage bags.’

‘If you fly to the moon, I will be watching the skies to see your re-entry. If you say you hate me, I’ll have new guts.

‘Remember that love is a verb, not a noun. It’s not a thing, it’s not words, it’s actions. Look at people’s actions to know if they love you, not their words.

‘Therefore I am sure that neither death nor Life, neither angels nor ruling spirits, neither things present nor things to come, nor powers above, nor powers below, nothing in all the created world can separate our love.’

”’Neither hostile powers nor messengers from heaven nor monarchs of the earth. Nothing has power to separate us… ” –Romans 8:38 (extended version!)’.

‘(Nothing can separate us: ‘not hate, nor hunger, nor homelessness, nor threats, not even sin, nor the thinkable or unthinkable can come between us.) ~Not time. Not miles and miles and miles.’
