The best friend of Australian breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has spoken out to defend the now-famous Olympian and hit back at suggestions she is at the centre of a sporting conspiracy.

The 36-year-old Olympian stunned the world with her remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics, leaving spectators stunned with her unconventional moves.

Sunny Spiteri, who was Rachael’s maid of honour at her wedding in 2018, praised her performance and said she is “the best person she has ever met”, slamming critics who “don’t understand” the creativity behind breakdancing.

“She’s my best friend!” Sunny responded to one critic.

“She’s kind and smart and one of the funniest people I know. All these people who don’t understand her moves have never been in a real-life battle. This is what breaking is all about!”

“She is a creative expression and is highly respected in the community for her musicality and creativity. All this to say that I love her and I am VERY PROUD.”

Sunny went on to describe her friend as “a legend” and said she will show her support by wearing Raygun t-shirts “until she’s 90.”

But one brutal critic said if Sunny was a real friend, she should have told Rachael she was “not very good” before embarrassing herself in front of the world.

But Sunny was quick to respond by explaining that her beloved friend had “consistently outperformed other waves not just in Australia but across the entire ocean region.”

However, she admitted that Rachael has also lost battles on occasion and rejected suggestions that there was any “cheating” regarding her selection to compete in Paris.

“Judges often don’t know her and score based on a specific criterion. None of her wins have been challenged. Just because you don’t understand it or like it doesn’t mean it was some kind of master plan of deception,” he wrote.

The blonde beauty added that Rachael and her husband Samuel Free comforted her during a horrific personal incident.

“She and her husband dropped everything and drove over an hour to come be with me,” she said.

It is understood that Rachael will not be returning home with her fellow Olympians and will instead enjoy a holiday in Europe.

Australia’s Olympic athletes landed in Sydney on Wednesday morning after the conclusion of the Games, but Raygun was not on board the plane.

Instead, she will remain in Europe, possibly to spend some free time with her husband Samuel Free and her parents, 2GB reported.

The athletes were reunited with family and friends on Wednesday morning inside a Qantas hangar at Sydney Airport.

The Paris Olympics were Australia’s most successful, with athletes winning 18 gold medals.
