As Australian Oscar Piastri completed his first Formula One win in Hungary overnight, his mother documented all the highs and lows of the race in a humorous way on social media.
Piastri joined an exclusive club of four other Australian drivers to have won a Formula One Grand Prix, thanks to his recent victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
His victory at the Hungaroring marks the 44th time an Australian has triumphed in an F1 race, a legacy that began with Jack Brabham’s win at the 1959 Monaco Grand Prix.
Prior to Piastri’s breakthrough, Australia’s last F1 win was Daniel Ricciardo’s for McLaren at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in September 2021. Piastri took over Ricciardo’s seat at McLaren in early 2023.
Back home in Melbourne, her mother Nicole nervously watched every minute of the action, posting on social media to keep her followers entertained.
Since the race was held in the early hours of the morning in Australia, she first posted images of the family dogs fast asleep despite the excitement surrounding them.
“Baz and Rosie aren’t so thrilled,” Nicole wrote.
Then, when Piastri crossed the line and made the win official, Nicole posted a picture of herself jumping to get her job, along with a separate post that read, “Pilates at 6am just got cancelled.”

Nicole Piastri is known for her humorous takes on her son’s career, and she was in great form as he scored his first win in the early hours of Monday morning.
While these were exciting times for the Piastri family, Nicole noted that her dogs were not carried away by expectations (pictured)
It was a great night for Nicole and the entire Piastri family, who have been supporting the 23-year-old since his junior karting days.
Nicole also appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise show on Monday and spoke about her nerves as she watched her son run.
“The girls will say I’m crazy and that I’m very anxious,” she said.
‘But I’ve seen competing mothers and I think I’m quite reserved compared to them.
‘Oscar and his sisters are much more excited when they play Mario Kart than I am when I watch my son racing at 300 kilometres per hour.
“I don’t like the start of the race and I don’t like when he has to overtake, but other than that I’m fine.”
Nicole has been one of her son’s biggest supporters throughout his F1 career.

On the win itself, Nicole said the reality of it all was still sinking in.
“It’s quite surreal, to be honest,” she said.
I mean, we’ve been doing this for a long time, but it’s still pretty amazing to see it on TV and think, “Wow, that’s my son.”
‘For him that is the dream, he has wanted it since he was a child.
‘I don’t know if this will change much in the future, I think everything will remain the same.
“Obviously this will help his confidence, but now he’ll just get on with it.”
Nicole also told the Today show that she hadn’t received any calls from him even though it had been hours since the checkered flag fell.
“I haven’t talked to him yet. I hope he sees this and decides to call his mother,” she joked.
“He texted me saying he’d call me back later… I’ll let it go this time.”
Oscar was still pinching himself after a dream weekend in which he held off team-mate Lando Norris (who was infuriated by controversial team orders to let the Australian through) and Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton.
“I think it naturally takes time for people to fully absorb it,” he said.
“The excitement is still there, the adrenaline is still flowing.”
