Shashank Singh – whose IPL 2024 auction selection by the Punjab Kings created a lot of buzz – addressed the franchise’s needs when the situation demanded and took his team to a memorable win against Gujarat Titans on Thursday. Chasing 200 against Gujarat Titans, Shashank Singh scored the highest score for his team after the PBKS top order slipped. He reached the fifty-run mark in just 25 balls and remained unbeaten till the end to see his side through.
However, Shashank Singh’s auction selection sparked a lot of controversy. At the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, Punjab Kings co-owners Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia looked confused after winning the bid for uncapped Indian Shashank Singh. It looked like the IPL franchise had no intention of buying the player, but by then the gavel had already fallen. IPL 2024 auctioneer Mallika Sagar also looked a bit surprised as the PBKS management went through the players auction list. However, PBKS decided to go ahead with the purchase and even welcomed Shashank Singh to their team via a post on X.
Now Preity ZInta has opened up about the controversy.
“Today seems like the perfect day to finally talk about things that have been said about us at the auction in the past. Many people in similar situations would have lost confidence, succumbed to pressure or become demotivated… but not Shashank!” Preity Zinta wrote in a post on her social media accounts.
“He is not like many people. He is truly special. Not only because of his skill as a player, but also because of his positive attitude and incredible spirit. He took all the comments, jokes and stone batting with such good sportsmanship and never became a victim.
