Sonic's new $1.99 menu launched Friday and offers burgers, wraps, hot dogs, tots, desserts and shakes at that price indefinitely.

Sonic Drive-In is the latest fast food giant to launch a value menu.

Sonic’s new $1.99 menu launched Friday, offering burgers, wraps, hot dogs, croquettes, desserts and shakes at that price indefinitely.

It comes after McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s launched $5 four-item meal deals and Taco Bell a $7 combo.

“Now more than ever, consumers are focused on affordable food options, but they shouldn’t have to settle for the same old boring discounts or boring meals,” said Sonic Chief Marketing Officer Ryan Dickerson.

‘Many restaurant brands are promoting affordable meals and discounts, and you see a lot of recycled ideas with limited options.

Sonic’s new $1.99 menu launched Friday and offers burgers, wraps, hot dogs, tots, desserts and shakes at that price indefinitely.

‘At Sonic, we wanted to do something different, something fun, so we focused on variety, which is why we introduced the new $1.99 Menu, or what we like to call the FUN.99 Menu.’

$1.99 menu options include:

  • Quarter-Pound Double Cheeseburger
  • Coney with cheese and chili
  • Ranch-Style Bacon and Cheese Wrap
  • Southwestern Crispy Cheese Wrap
  • Small children
  • Any of 12 flavors of Sonic Shakes in a 16-ounce size

Sonic Drive-In, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Inspire Brands, has more than 3,500 locations nationwide.

At McDonald’s, customers get four items for five dollars: a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, fries, a soda and four McNuggets.

From Burger King Food your way for $5 It’s almost identical to McDonald’s and lasts all summer.

Customers can choose from one of three sandwiches (a Whopper Jr, a Bacon Cheeseburger or a Chicken Jr), plus four chicken nuggets, fries and a soft drink.

Wendy’s has a $3 breakfast deal and also a four-item meal for $5 similar to McDonald’s and BK’s.

Starbucks also made a surprise entry into the value wars with a $5 breakfast coffee and lunch combo.

In addition to offering deals, fast food chains compete with each other with app-specific offers.

Apps allow chains to understand their customers and reduce staff costs, so companies like McDonald’s are willing to offer freebies and cut-price deals to Americans to reward them for using them.

Sonic has in-app offers. The company says customers get half-price drinks and slushies every time they place an order on the app. They can also take advantage of the classic Sonic cheeseburgers for half price on Tuesday nights.
