- The 65-year-old man was found on a beach on the Costa Brava surrounded by dead animals
A man has been found dead on a Spanish beach after performing an alleged “black magic” ritual in which he sacrificed animals before collapsing.
The 65-year-old man was found behind a rocky area on La Fosca beach, north of the resort of Palamós on the Costa Brava near Girona, after decapitating around half a dozen chickens.
His wife alerted emergency services shortly after 5am yesterday, saying she had found him unconscious surrounded by the headless carcasses of the birds.
Paramedics and police rushed to the scene but were unable to revive him.
The 65-year-old man was found behind a rocky area on La Fosca beach (pictured), north of the resort of Palamós on the Costa Brava near Girona, after decapitating around half a dozen chickens.
The dead man is said to have fallen ill after rowing with his partner and two children when he began preparing the satanic ritual before heading to the nearby location where he was found after completing the animal sacrifice.
When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the man surrounded by chicken heads and his distraught wife and children.
Police are still awaiting autopsy results but are not treating the incident as a crime at this stage: the man’s body showed no signs of trauma, according to police sources cited by Spanish outlet Crónica Global.
They also confirmed that neither the man’s wife nor his daughters will be charged with animal abuse or public health problems, since they “have not actively participated” in the actions that the deceased allegedly carried out.
Local reports suggest the man’s death is linked to a reaction to drugs he may have taken as part of the black magic ceremony.

La Fosca beach is a wide sandy area divided into two halves by a large black rock.
It is part of a residential and tourist area located in a bay north of Palamós.
A pleasant promenade runs along the beach with pretty seafront summer houses from the first half of the last century.
It was not immediately clear this morning whether the dead man lived locally or was on holiday in the area.
It is believed that the part of the beach where the chickens were slaughtered was cleaned before the first tourists arrived.
