An MSNBC analyst has suggested Donald Trump stop playing golf after an alleged second assassination attempt in less than two months.

The suspected killer allegedly pointed an AK-47 at the former president while he was at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach on Sunday afternoon.

The suspected gunman has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, a registered Democrat from Hawaii, who is now in custody.

MSNBC national security contributor Frank Figliuzzi said the Secret Service could ask Trump to stop golfing and he believes the former president should comply.

“If the Secret Service asked Donald Trump to stop playing golf or to change golf courses or something that would be much safer, would he do it? I think in the weeks that remain I would follow the advice of the security professionals, no matter what they say,” Figliuzzi said.

Authorities said the gunman was able to approach Trump at his Florida golf course because he does not have the same security detail as a sitting president.

The suspect managed to get within 300 to 500 yards of Trump and was located outside the club around the 5th and 6th holes, which is a more “vulnerable” area of the course because it is the closest to the road.

The incident comes as Trump’s security detail has been beefed up in the two months since the former president was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler on July 13.

Figliuzzi said Trump’s security team will discuss how to keep him safe at outdoor events and may suggest he no longer attend them.

“It’s inevitable that protégés from across the spectrum of the Secret Service will meet to discuss outdoor events. This is going to happen, I guarantee you that. The question I can’t answer now is whether every protégé will participate in the program,” he said.

‘We already live in a society where our candidates, our vice presidential candidates, speak from behind bulletproof glass at open-air events. How far can this go?’

He said the Secret Service might ask him to stop playing golf because they can’t afford to increase their security.

“How far, if at all, can we fund the Secret Service to send out numerous drones to do aerial footage of golf courses, concerts, demonstrations? Will this become the norm?” Figliuzzi asked.

“Where is the perimeter located? How many agents, how many police officers are needed? Do you need an entire square acre, do you need miles of perimeter?

“These are questions that have almost no answer because they are prohibitively expensive and require resources.”
