U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man entering the Capitol Visitor Center who was doused with fuel and carrying a torch and flare gun on Election Day.
The terrifying incident was reported around 1:45 p.m. ET on the Capitol Police’s X account.
“Our officers just arrested a man who was detained during our screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC),” the post says.
“The man smelled like fuel, he had a flashlight and a flare gun.”
“The CVC is closed for tours during the day while we investigate,” the Capitol Police post concludes.

The legislators who usually occupy the halls of Congress returned to their districts this week, most of them candidates for re-election.

Congressional security sources revealed to the media that the suspect’s clothes were soaked and reeked of fuel when he approached.
Smelling the odor and detecting that something was wrong, Capitol Police immediately arrested the man and took off his clothes.
After being searched, a blowtorch, a flare gun and other incendiary liquids were discovered on the man.
Fox News reveals that this man also had a 25-page manifesto that he supposedly wanted to deliver to Congress.
U.S. Capitol Police quickly arrested the individual, who sources say is a white man in his mid-twenties.
Sources said the individual was a white man in his 20s who drove overnight from Michigan to Washington.
They also told the outlet that the man was acting alone and had not previously been identified by Capitol Police.
