Ajay Devgn is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Maidan. He will play the role of a football coach in the film. The story of the film revolves around the inspiring story of Syed Abdul Rahim, who works dedicatedly to take Indian football to the world stage by building and training a team composed mainly of talented youth from the slums . After the release of the film’s trailer, some fans made comparisons between Maidanand the iconic sports drama Chak De! India. Director Amit Ravindernath Sharma addressed these comparisons and spoke about the distinctiveness of Maidan in an interview with India today. He said, “As soon as a sports movie arrives, people compare these movies because of the story of a coach and players. Even before watching the movie, people assume it is a similar movie.”
Amit Sharma further explained, “There are no similarities between these films except maybe 22 players running after one ball on the field. The story is different, the battle is different. This is not a sports biopic either, it is the journey of Abdul.” Rahim. Maidaan is about his emotional journey. Football is just the medium.”
Refuting the concept of similarity with Chak De! India”, starring Shah Rukh Khan as coach of the national women’s hockey team, Amit Sharma highlighted the unique essence of Maidan. He said, “Challenges are always good because you would get bored making the same films. The most important thing is that the audience finally gets to know this man. They should know what he has done for the country. There is no chauvinism.” , but simply his greatest love for India and football.”
Maidanstarring Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in important roles, is slated to release on April 10. The film will clash with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
