New Delhi:
A day ahead of the mega march to protest the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi said the opposition will present a united front in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Her comments come amid several reports of a rift between parties within the INDIA alliance, which have come together to challenge the ruling BJP in the elections.
“The INDIA alliance is one. When the arrest (Arvind Kejriwal) took place, major Congress leaders were present there. All leaders of the alliance had raised their voices on this matter,” Atishi said at a news conference.
“The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal is the latest attack on the murder of democracy, about which the opposition will also raise its voice tomorrow,” she added.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last week in an alleged money laundering case related to liquor policy in Delhi.
The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy for the period 2021-2022, which was later scrapped.
AAP will take to the streets of Delhi tomorrow along with other opposition leaders to protest against the arrest. Top leaders of the INDIA bloc including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav will attend the ‘maha rally’ at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
AAP leader Gopal Rai said they expect a large crowd to come out tomorrow to join their protest. He alleged that ever since the BJP government at the Center and the Prime Minister arrested the popularly elected Chief Minister of Delhi, there was widespread anger among the people. He said that all classes and professions, students, youth and members of RWAs, are expected to attend the meeting.
