Despite his grandson saying he was “limited” when he turned 100, Jimmy Carter spent his birthday in the sun enjoying a military flyover at his Georgia home.

Carter, the first American president to reach the century mark, was able to watch a flyover of four F-18 aircraft and several vintage aircraft gracing the skies over Plains, Georgia, as part of the city’s celebrations.

He was also honored at Plains High School, where Carter graduated in 1941 and which now serves as a national park visitor center featuring sites from his early life, including the nearby peanut farm where he grew up.

On Tuesday night, the school held a concert in honor of the president and, in the morning, a naturalization ceremony for 100 new American citizens, who placed their hands over their hearts and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Carter’s grandson Jason issued a worrying update on the former president’s health as he celebrates, but revealed who he wanted to vote for in the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking to CBS Mornings, Jason Carter, who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a politician, said the former 39th president is “very limited in what he can do” and “can’t talk on the phone.”

But Jason also shed light on who his grandfather, who is the oldest in American history and now the first to become a centenarian, will vote for in the upcoming presidential election.

“When we asked him if he was excited about his 100th birthday, he said, ‘I’m excited about that, but I’m really excited about voting for Kamala Harris,'” after he reportedly told his grandchildren that his new goal was to reach the elections. Day, after having been following the elections.

The vote of the former president and former governor of Georgia could be important, as Georgia is a key state that polls show is on a knife edge between Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

To commemorate Carter’s historic birthday, his hometown of Plains, Georgia, will celebrate with a military aircraft flyover and concert.

The updates on Carter come after he entered hospice care last year, when he was believed to have only days to live.

His last public appearance was almost a year ago at his wife Rosalynn’s funeral. The couple was the first couple to be married the longest, as they were married for 77 years.

They met when the former president was just three years old and Rosalynn was a newborn.

According to his family, he had a “low period” after that, but has now recovered and spends his time listening to Bob Dylan and watching baseball.

Jason said 100th birthday celebrations were not something the family expected to see once his grandmother died.

“Frankly, we didn’t think it was going to last much longer,” Jason said. ‘But it’s a journey of faith for him, and he’s really surrendered himself to what he feels is God’s plan. He knows he’s not in charge. But especially in these last few months, he has become much more involved in world events, much more involved in politics, much more, just involved, emotionally, with all of us.’

The Democrat served one presidential term from 1977 to 1981 and then spent more than four decades running the Carter Center, which he and his wife founded in 1982 to “achieve peace, fight disease and generate hope.”

Last month, his representatives were forced to deny claims that he had died after a false letter was published in X.
