A senior flight attendant has revealed that the mile-high club is more common than passengers might expect – but claims it is actually a “really embarrassing situation”.
On Reddit’s ‘Ask Me Anything’ forum, user ‘RomanAirLad’ created a thread to answer other users’ questions about his work.
And apparently there was one question at the forefront of everyone’s minds: “Do people really have sex on airplanes?”
Clearing up the confusion, the flight attendant claimed that while he wished the mile-high club was an “urban legend,” it is surprisingly prevalent on airplanes.
He explained: “As much as people fantasize about it, it’s really an embarrassing situation.”

The original poster explained that this is evaluated on a “case by case” basis and that some warnings are usually issued.
If they stop, nothing happens, he wrote, adding: “Otherwise the situation reaches the captain and they are met by security upon landing.” That is the general procedure in all airlines.
To which the user responded: ‘My God. I would be horrified to do that on a plane.
In the thread, the flight attendant also revealed that the hookup culture is widespread among cabin crew staff.
One user, ‘Anomaly1134’, asked: ‘Is hookup culture still pretty wild between pilots and flight attendants?’
To which the senior stewardess replied: “It is, but when a crew is recognized to be like that, I personally avoid them.”

When asked if flight attendants sometimes offer ‘sexual favors,’ the original poster wrote: ‘(That’s) absurd. Unless it’s Megan Fox asking, that’s a different case.”
In addition to revealing insider gossip, the senior team member shared some helpful tips for passengers.
When asked for his top five tips for international travel, the crew member said, “Don’t rely on the cleanliness of the seat/toilet, it doesn’t get cleaned much.”
‘Use duty free bags to store items, they won’t be taken away from you.
‘Reserve aisle and window seats if you want to reserve a row for yourself, especially if the flight is not full. “They (passengers) will not reserve the middle seat.”
He also advised booking tickets before peak seasons to get the “cheapest rates” and avoiding overeating before fights as “it can make you feel bloated.”
Meanwhile, other Reddit users were more interested in how he got into the profession and how they could follow his example.
One user, ‘Pierf1n’, asked: ‘If I want to be a flight attendant, what do I have to do for it?’
The original poster responded: ‘This is a wonderful job if you are looking to broaden your horizons and want to be part of a great community.
“If you want to become a flight attendant, I recommend you check with your local airline and check their requirements.”
He explained that the job has many disadvantages, such as “feeling physically exhausted from flying.” But, he said, if you have a “well-adapted routine and take care of yourself,” then you should “do it.”
