Following the shocking news that The Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and his wife Theresa Nist are now set to divorce, just three months after their dream TV wedding, many fans are wondering if his new wife suffered the same fate as his ex.
Gerry, 72, initially captured the hearts of millions when he was introduced as a doting retired restaurateur who hadn’t been on a single date since his wife of 45 years (pictured together) suddenly died from an infection in 2017.
Gerry and Theresa, who married in January during a televised wedding, continued to live in separate homes after their nuptials.
but the couple announced the news of their split during an interview on Good Morning America this morning, when they discussed the reasons behind their shocking split.
“Theresa and I have had several heart-to-heart conversations and have taken a long, hard look at our situation, our living situation, etc., and we have come to the mutual conclusion that it’s probably time for ‘We dissolve our marriage,'” Gerry told host Juju Chang.
The separation comes just weeks after an explosive investigation into Gerry’s life beyond the cameras uncovered a professional and personal history that did not match his persona as a troubled man who had not been on a first date in 40 years.
That is, he was reported to have been in a three-year relationship with a woman named Carolyn, 14 years his junior, with whom he lived for more than a year at her lake house in Indiana.
Carolyn told The Hollywood Reporter that the two started dating after Gerry called her after his wife Toni’s death to ask her for help donating some clothes to charity.
She claimed she left her job to move in with Gerry in July 2018, but things soon went wrong when his demands began to surface.
For example, he soon informed Carolyn that she would have to pay about $1,000 a month for her share of expenses, which she managed to negotiate down to $850.
Late last year, Gerry’s healthy image began to crack after he became embroiled in scandal when a report uncovered a secret past.
Gerry and Theresa, who married in January during a televised wedding, continued to live in separate homes after their nuptials.
The image of Gerry painted by Carolyn is a far cry from the man portrayed on the show, who won over millions with his emotional awareness and health.
Gerry was reportedly so concerned about splitting costs that Carolyn would pay for his meals at restaurants in advance so that when he played the check, Turner could pretend he was paying the entire bill.
The reality star was also allegedly obsessed with cleanliness and demanded Carolyn make her bed every morning before eating breakfast.
The romance ended in late 2019, when, according to Carolyn, Gerry said he wouldn’t take her to her high school reunion because of her weight.
The Golden Bachelor allegedly said, “I’m not taking you to the reunion looking like that.”
Gerry then told Carolyn she had to leave the house by Jan. 1, 2020, according to THR, which reviewed emails and text messages between the former couple and spoke to people who witnessed the relationship.
Carolyn fell down the stairs while packing and required emergency surgery, but she says Gerry accused her of using the fall as an excuse to extend her stay at his house and claimed she planned to sue him for it.
Gerry didn’t even let Carolyn stay in the house until she finished the two weeks’ notice she had to give at her new job in Indiana, forcing her to stay in a hotel, she claimed.

The explosive report came later The US Sun It previously reported that Gerry’s claim that he hadn’t dated since his wife’s death may not have been accurate.
The outlet spoke to Gerry’s friend, Heather Lanning-Adams, who said he had dated a couple of women over the past six years.
Similarly, it was also alleged that Gerry had also lied about his professional credentials.
While Gerry was introduced as a “retired restaurateur” on the show, his LinkedIn profile shows that he hasn’t owned a restaurant since 1985, when he sold his Mr Quick burger franchise in Iowa, where he had worked his way up from high school.
