An Australian mum has shocked the internet after revealing the disgusting truth about having carpeted floors.
The Queensland woman was stunned when she used carpet shampoo and found layers of dirt lurking beneath the “clean” exterior.
She has two dogs, a cat, and a toddler, and shared that she had new carpets installed just 18 months ago.
The mother vacuums regularly and never expected that her floors still had so much dirt, dust, hair and pet hair.
While it is recommended to have your carpet professionally washed at least once a year, you can use a steam cleaner weekly or bi-weekly to keep your home as clean as possible.

The mom revealed that she recently purchased a Tineco Carpet One pro from Godfrey’s ($499, marked down from $999) on a whim and decided to give it a try.
He shared images of the dirt coming from his floors on Facebook.
“I’m very impressed with using it in the automatic mode,” she said.
“Plus, it has a drying function that sucks in excess water and expels heat.”
It is not recommended to leave carpets wet or damp because it could cause mold to form.

Australian woman named Emma said she used to buy brand-name carpet dusters in supermarkets for up to $16, but recently discovered she can make her own for a fraction of the price.
Emma mixed a bag of baking soda with a few tablespoons of her favorite essential oil.
“You can use whatever essential oil you prefer (be careful with cats, eucalyptus oil and some others as they cause reactions),” Emma said. ‘I just used a measuring spoon to sprinkle it easier.
“Much cheaper than a container of carpet duster which usually only works for me once,” he added.
Simply sprinkle the mixture all over your carpets, let it soak for 20 minutes, and then vacuum as usual.
The mother said she discovered that you can buy giant bags of baking soda (pictured), which is an effective cleaner and much cheaper than store-bought carpet duster.
