Delay: Ineos Automotive will postpone the launch of its Fusilier jeep (pictured)
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s car company has delayed production of its electric SUV due to lack of demand and stricter net-zero emissions rules expected under a Labour government.
Ineos Automotive is postponing the launch of its Fusilier jeep, which it had hoped would use a small petrol engine to recharge the battery.
But the company expects this to conflict with a ban on new petrol-powered cars in Europe from 2035, and Labour has promised to bring forward the ban in the UK to 2030.
Sir Jim, the petrochemicals magnate who also co-owns Manchester United football club, outlined plans for the electric SUV in February. Ineos has not said when it will launch the Fusilier, which was previously planned for release in 2027.
