Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire roared to the top of the North American box office in its debut weekend, crushing the competition with a massive $80 million in ticket sales, according to industry observer Exhibitor Relations. “The final numbers could change on Monday, but whatever they are, this is a fantastic opening,” said analyst David A. Gross, with ticket sales 2.5 times the average for a monster movie sequel.

In fourth place was the martial arts comedy from Universal and DreamWorks Animation, down one spot from last weekend Kung Fu Panda 4for $10.2 million.

Spotlessa new psychological horror film from indie studio Neon starring Sydney Sweeney, finished in fifth place with $3.3 million.
