Donald Trump is the best president in American history and comparable to Sir Winston Churchill, his son Eric said as he landed in Scotland yesterday.

The 40-year-old said his father and Britain’s wartime leader share similar traits: both men are funny, politically incorrect and blessed with an indomitable fighting spirit.

Speaking at the family’s new MacLeod Trump International Golf Links course in Aberdeenshire (named after the former president’s Scottish mother, Mary Anne MacLeod), he added: “He’s the best president his country has ever had.”

‘There are many parallels to be drawn between Churchill and my father. They were sometimes funny and perhaps politically incorrect, but also incredibly effective.

‘The fact that my father was so effective, the fact that he wants to be a cheerleader for our country instead of being a globalist, the fact that he doesn’t want wars and wants to end reckless spending and wants to have the best economy and the most secure borders and no fentanyl and no drugs and the best education system on Earth – that’s why people like him.

“And they also like him because he is a fighter and doesn’t try to be politically correct. He says what everyone thinks. He doesn’t let himself be bought or sold like any other politician because he doesn’t need their money.”

Referring to the attempted assassination of his father at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, Trump said: “When he stood up and had blood running down his face and chanted ‘Fight, fight, fight,’ that’s exactly what our country needs.”

“There is no struggle in our country at the moment.”

The businessman, who is the third of the Republican presidential candidate’s children with his ex-wife Ivana, says the US Secret Service has questions to answer about the security lapses that nearly cost his father his life.

He said: “This should never have been allowed to happen. It was a failure to protect a former president and a future president.”

“Think of the draconian outcome that could have had for world history.” Turning his attention to the presidential race, with Kamala Harris now the Democrats’ nominee after President Joe Biden stepped aside, Trump said: “Kamala Harris is not a fighter.

“There’s no energy there. Democrats are not cheerleaders or defenders of America. They’re not effective, their policies are broken.”

He added that although Harris was in charge of artificial intelligence policy in the government, she “couldn’t spell AI,” and under her watch the United States had taken in 12 million illegal immigrants, or “two Scotlands.”

Perhaps Trump’s 41-year-old wife, Lara, who is now co-chair of the Republican Party, would be the most suitable person?

Effusive in his praise for the mother of his two children, Mr Trump said she “100 per cent” could be in the White House one day.

He added: “She’s beautiful, smart, strong, amazing in every way. There’s no doubt she could do it.”

Trump has also been linked to a future presidential run, but he insists that if he were to run, it would cost him financially, as the Trumps are “the first family in American history to have lost substantial wealth” while in office.

He added: “We have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in legal fees, because that has been the Democrats’ strategy.

“They have dragged him to every court and subpoenaed each and every one of us just for fun.

“They tried to take us down, they tried to kill him. And yet we still fought. Yes, I think I could do politics as well as anybody if I wanted to. I just don’t know if I will.”
