A man remains behind bars after allegedly indecently assaulting a child at a popular fast food restaurant.

Marhdu Andrew Rosas, 29, was remanded in custody at his first appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday over the alleged incident.

He is accused of assaulting the boy at Hungry Jacks in Firle, East Adelaide, on Friday before fleeing when confronted by the boy’s father.

Police arrested Rosas the next day at a home he shares with his mother in Mile End, about five miles west of the restaurant.

He was charged with aggravated indecent assault and aggravated gross indecency.

Rosas broke down in court after seeing his mother, Melinda, in the gallery and lamented “I love you mom” and “I’m so sorry.” 7news reports.

Melinda told reports outside court that she believed her son was innocent because he comes from a “great family.”

‘We are a big family, kids everywhere, running everywhere. There is no way he would have done this,” she said.

‘Is innocent. He is a beautiful boy. He works hard. ‘He loves family.’

Rosas’ lawyer did not apply for bail and he remained in custody until his next court appearance in September.
