Greene holds a 'MUGA' hat: 'Make Ukraine Great Again'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed she will force a vote to unseat President Mike Johnson next week after Democrats said they would come to the rescue.

“Next week I will file this motion for annulment,” he announced to reporters Wednesday morning.

‘Absolutely call him. I can’t wait to see Democrats come out and support a Republican president and have to come home for their primaries. And having to run for Congress again, having supported a Republican president, a Christian conservative, I think that will work out well. I’m excited about it.’

The Republican firebrand brought props to her press conference: a ‘MUGA’ hat for Make Ukraine Great Again and photos of Johnson and Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries smiling, hugging and both holding the gavel.

On Tuesday night, Johnson responded to Greene, telling NewsNation that she is “not proving herself” to be a serious legislator.

Once again he ignored his threat.

“I don’t spend much time thinking about her,” the speaker said. “I have to do my job, and we do the right thing, and we let the chips fall where they may.” That’s my philosophy. “This is how we govern.”

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who joined Greene in trying to take the gavel away from Johnson, insisted that Greene is the “most serious representative here.”

While many fellow Republicans have insisted that returning the House to chaos in an election year could have political consequences, Greene asserted that it would be Johnson who would lose the Republican majority in the House.

“We are not going to have a majority in the House [next year] if we keep Mike Johnson,” he said.

Greene said she “couldn’t wait” to state whether her fellow Republicans support Johnson and the bipartisan legislation he has recently introduced or whether they are willing to “fight.”

‘I can’t wait to see my Republican conference show their cards and show who we are. Because the voters deserve it. Is it the Republican Party? Have they finally learned their lesson? Have they finally heard the message from voters at home? Are they really willing to fight? Are they going to move on and get along?’

Greene filed her override motion in late March after Johnson introduced a pair of year-long bipartisan spending bills to fund every government agency and has been waiting in the wings to take down the speaker ever since.

In recent days, his fellow critics have been frustrated as Johnson introduced legislation to fund Ukraine to the tune of $61 billion and to reauthorize warrantless spying through Section 702 of FISA in the House. Representatives.

A game-changing memo circulated among House Democrats on Tuesday morning, essentially deflating Greene’s headline-grabbing threat: ‘We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate the presidency. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.’

A successful vote to table the motion prevents it from going to a final vote.

Greene, in response, said she will force a vote in the House.

‘Mike Johnson is officially the Democratic Speaker of the House. Here is his official endorsement of his presidency. What disgusting secret deal did Johnson make to get Democrats’ support? she wrote in X.

“If Democrats want to elect him president (and some Republicans want to support the president chosen by Democrats), I will give them the opportunity to do so.”

‘I am a big believer in recorded votes because recording Congress on the record allows all Americans to see the truth and provides transparency to our votes. Americans deserve to see Unipartido on full display. I’m about to give them their coming out party!’

Two other Republicans, Massie and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., joined Greene’s effort after she put $60 billion in funding for Ukraine in the House.

A handful of others, Reps. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., and Matt Rosendale, R-Montana, have declined to say how they would vote. Johnson could only afford to lose two Republican votes and remain president if he did not have Democratic help.

The fact that Democrats saved their leader did not sit well with hardline Republicans, although most refused to commit to joining Greene on her sinking ship.

‘It’s really sad, it’s disturbing. I don’t know where we go from here,” Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., told DailyMail.com of Johnson’s liberal bailout. ‘Some of us are wondering if this isn’t like a psychological operation for Democrats.’ to say that we support you in public because in the end they want him to be vacant. I don’t know if it’s like 4-D chess.

“In some ways, it’s almost like they’re just trying to pressure her into doing it” and launching the motion, said Rep. Barry Moore, R-Ala. “I wish President Johnson would be willing to do more of our agenda so they wouldn’t be willing to save it.”

‘It’s just strange. They did not come for [former Speaker Kevin] McCarthy, but they are coming to retain him,” reflected Rep. Ralph Norman, RS.C.

McCarthy famously said that former Speaker Nancy Pelosi had promised him that Democrats would help him if a Republican filed an override motion. In the end none of them did.

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., who voted to vacate McCarthy, said he would not support Johnson’s ouster and didn’t think it would matter in the end whether Democrats saved him.

“I think it’s going to be another tough week and we’ll all forget it.”

Democrats are offering their motion to come forward in exchange for Johnson coming up with aid to Ukraine.

“I don’t think we’re giving these things away,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told reporters.

‘I think the vote on aid to Ukraine has weighed heavily on many members of the group. I also think the fact that the person who introduced the motion is Marjorie Taylor Greene, which has also felt, who are we going to vote for to give our support?, which is a rock and a difficult place for many members.

Johnson told reporters that he had not spoken to Democrats about saving it and had not reached any agreement with them to do so.

“This is the first time I’ve heard of it,” he said.

But the fact that Democrats are swooping in to save a Republican president could have political implications down the road.

Asked if he felt comfortable being saved by Democrats, Johnson said, “You hope to have support from everyone, from the entire country.” …The Speaker of the House serves the entire body. “I’m a conservative Republican, a lifelong conservative Republican.”

The final override motion that ended Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s career left the House paralyzed for three weeks without a speaker. “We want to turn the page,” insisted the president of the Democratic Caucus, Pete Aguilar. “We don’t want Marjorie Taylor Greene to dictate the schedule.”
