Holidaymakers using Easyjet are in for a major blow to their travel plans as the budget airline has announced plans to scrap its free baggage allowance.
Bosses have removed the checked baggage allowance from city break packages in a bid to “make our packages even better with lower prices”.
The company’s new baggage policy, which came into effect on August 7, means passengers can now only carry-on luggage under their seats.
Previously, jet-setters were allowed to take 23kg of free checked luggage, but the company said its customers told them that weight was “not always necessary”.
The change will not affect customers who purchased a flight-only ticket and other travel combinations that still include the free checked baggage policy.
But for city break packages, the price for a large carry-on bag will be £5.99 each way and £9.49 each way for a 23kg bag.

In a statement, easyJet Holidays said: ‘We pride ourselves on offering fantastic holidays at unbeatable prices, so we continually listen to our customers about what would make our packages even better.
‘Our customers have told us that 23kg for city breaks isn’t always necessary, so from 7 August 2024 our city breaks will include flights and hotel accommodation as standard, and an option to add large carry-ons and luggage storage for a fee.
‘Savings made by not adding a bag to your booking will be applied to the total cost of your holiday, and we’re confident that tailoring our packages to holidaymakers’ needs will continue to provide our customers with ease and flexibility throughout their experience.’
This November, Easyjet will launch a new route from four major UK airports (Birmingham, London, Manchester and Liverpool) as the popular budget airline looks to rapidly expand its travel offering.
easyJet bosses have announced their new route will fly weekly to a popular holiday destination, in addition to five other winter routes.
From 13 November, passengers will be able to travel from Birmingham Airport to Hurghada, a seaside resort in Egypt, every Wednesday.
Other new routes include Krakow, Reykjavik, Innsbruck, Prague and Marrakech.
Tom Screen, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, said: ‘easyJet and easyJet Holidays have made an incredible start since the launch of the airline’s new base from Birmingham Airport last March.
‘This new route to Hurghada brings the choice of destinations to 33 for customers from their home airport, with the option of flight only or complete holiday packages, there is something for everyone.’
