Cyndi Lauper’s rapper son ‘Dex’ flashed a peace sign today after appearing in court on weapons charges following a shooting in Harlem.
Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper, 26, attended Manhattan Supreme Court for a procedural hearing Tuesday morning after her actor Dad bailed him out on a $20,000 bond.
She wore a yellow bomber jacket with glasses and her hair in braids for her final appearance in criminal court. Dex also gave a thumbs up inside the courthouse shortly after his hearing.
According to court documents, he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
Dex was arrested after a shooting occurred in Harlem on Thursday in the area near 135 W. 112th St. where a 24-year-old man was found shot in the leg near an apartment building.

Wearing a black jacket, blue shirt, striped tie and a red and gray scarf, Thornton posted his son’s $20,000 bail at a New York City Department of Corrections facility on Friday.
Prosecutors requested either $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bail, he said. New York Daily Newsbut a judge granted $20,000 cash bail.
After Dex was released, the father and son were escorted out of the building with their attorney.
Dex was arrested Wednesday after police searched the area for evidence and found him with a loaded gun and drugs in his possession. ABC7 reported.
The 24-year-old victim was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and is reportedly in stable condition at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.
According to the criminal complaint filed, Dex was found with a fanny pack that contained a Glock with seven bullets in its magazine. The complaint said he possessed the gun “with the intent to unlawfully use it against another person.”
Dex, who is the only child of the Girls Just Want to Have Fun singer and Thornton, has found himself in trouble with the authorities before.

He was arrested after being in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz while at a memorial service on July 14, 2022 for an aspiring rapper named Ethan Reyes, who had been fatally stabbed days earlier.
Dex had been arrested while sitting in the double-parked vehicle at the intersection of 140th Street and Broadway, the New York Post reported.
Prosecutors in the case said Dex told police officers when they asked him about the vehicle: “You probably know who I am.”
Dex pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct without jail time in connection with the incident.
As a condition of his plea deal, Manhattan Criminal Court ordered Dex to avoid further trouble for one year; and perform community service that lasted five days. He faced up to a year in prison if he was convicted, according to the outlet.
After the October 2022 court hearing, Dex was seen smoking marijuana (which is legal in New York City) with friends while getting into a van parked outside the courthouse.

Police were responding to a shooting in Harlem in the area near 135 W. 112th St. where a 24-year-old man was found shot in the leg near an apartment building when Dex was arrested.
Dex was arrested after being in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz while at a memorial service on July 14, 2022 for an aspiring rapper named Ethan Reyes.
In an Instagram Stories post that day, Dex posted an image of a smoke-filled vehicle with the caption “Court.”
At the time, Dex, who previously worked with rapper G-Eazy, told the Post that he and his famous mother had been collaborating on musical material.
“My mom and I have a couple of songs that we recorded,” he said. he told the newspaper at the timeadding that the end of the previous case was “definitely a blessing” for him.
Lauper said last year vanity fair that Dex’s musical tastes tended to be “more underground”, adding: “He’s on SoundCloud and he’s a fantastic artist.”
In the chat, Lauper talked about balancing parenthood with her career.
“People said I was very career-driven, but once the kid came, I looked at how I could support everything: making a record, going on tour, and my husband was like, ‘Go to Europe, I’ve got it.'” she said. “Sometimes I took my son on tour, but he needed his own space.”
