Chennaiyin FC has entered into a strategic partnership with Norwich City FC, the English champions side, to promote mutual growth, innovation and football collaboration. Both clubs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Wednesday and the deal is expected to bring with it a wealth of experience, expertise and unique football philosophies, along with the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, coaching methodologies and player development strategies. Commenting on the partnership, CFC vice-president Ekansh Gupta said: “We are delighted to unveil our partnership with Norwich City. Let me be clear: this is far from just a marketing ploy.

“We expect significant progress for our development teams through this partnership. I am confident that we can help Norwich City achieve their goal of establishing a presence within the Indian sporting ecosystem.” With this partnership, CFC is keen to facilitate cultural exchange programs and collaborate on joint marketing initiatives to reach diverse audiences and promote the vision of both clubs, the club said in a statement.

Norwich’s technical expertise and involvement in workshops and seminars are expected to play an important role in improving coaching standards and methodologies at CFC.

It is also expected that active participation in youth development programs, including talent identification processes and coaching clinics, will further strengthen the impact of the partnership.

Under this agreement, the two clubs are also expected to organize periodic friendlies and training camps.

Norwich Commercial Director Sam Jeffery commented: “This is an extremely exciting moment for Norwich City as we enter into our partnership with Chennaiyin FC and therefore the Indian football market.

‘India has the fastest growing sports economy in the world, and football is also the fastest growing participation sport here.

“We believe there are significant commercial opportunities in this fantastic part of the world, and we are very excited to build a mutually beneficial and culturally authentic partnership with our friends at Chennaiyin FC.” Norwich are two-time winners of the English League Cup and finished third during the 1992-93 FA Premier League (now EPL) season.

They currently play in the EFL Championship and sit sixth in the table, having previously won the title in 2018/19 and 2020/21.

As for CFC, they are ranked ninth in the current ISL season, having won the title on two occasions (2015 and 2017-18).
