A British Airways pilot has reportedly died during a stopover between flights at a resort on the island of Saint Lucia.
The 47-year-old senior first officer is believed to have collapsed in a luxury hotel in front of shocked tourists on the Caribbean island yesterday.
His death forced BA to cancel flight BA2158 from Vieux Fort, which was due to land at London Gatwick at 8.50am today.
“This tragedy has left British Airways staff stunned and deeply upset,” a source said. the sun.
“The first senior officer was very popular and his death was completely unexpected.”
The BA pilot reportedly collapsed in a St Lucia hotel between flights yesterday.
The devastated crew members are expected to return to the UK on another flight tonight.
The bosses offered advice to the crew who had flown with the pilot.
BA said in a statement to MailOnline: “Our thoughts and condolences are with our colleague’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
