Rajasthan Royals pacer Avesh Khan feels the last time he bowled against Delhi Capitals in an IPL match was probably his best effort in the death overs. The India pacer had to defend 17 runs in the last over on Thursday evening and he did so quite comfortably, landing one yorker after another. Delhi could only score four points from that, giving the home side a 12-point win. At the start of the season, Lucknow Super Giants had traded Avesh to Royals.

“It’s not the first time I bowled the last over. Last year I defended against Rajasthan. When I played for Delhi (also bowled the last over there), this was my best over in terms of execution. All the balls were in the same place, wide yorkers,” said Avesh, who has played eight ODIs and 20 T20s.

The 27-year-old also talked about how his role has changed from last season when he featured for LSG.

“In Lucknow and DC I bowled one over beforehand or two overs in the powerplay. Here I bowl two overs after the powerplay and I can also bowl in death. Team management and Sanju (Samson) give Meeuw the freedom to execute plans and that helps Sanju is the captain of bowlers.

“There was no dew factor tonight either and that helped me be accurate. Dew can sometimes affect your execution,” Avesh said.

He gave credit to Royals’ new number four Riyan Parag, who single-handedly kept his team in the match after an ordinary start, hitting an unbeaten 84 off 45 balls. “It was a match-changing inning as we had lost wickets early and the run-rate was on the low side. He helped us post a fighting total. He has good touch and showed that in this and the last match,” Avesh added.
