An American man was rescued by a woman after he was seen wandering around a Medellín shopping center after he was allegedly drugged and robbed.
The victim was seen asking shoppers at the San Lucas shopping center on Sunday morning to help him contact his mother at home when a good Samaritan did so, El Colombiano newspaper reported.
The man, who identified himself as John and a Los Angeles resident, told the woman that his cell phone, laptop and an undisclosed amount of money had been stolen.
The Good Samaritan, who did not want to be identified in the report, recalled that John told him: “I’m going to tell all my friends not to come to Medellin.”

A good Samaritan helped John after finding him in a market.
Police arrived at the scene and filed an incident report and stated that the only friend John had in the area was a tattoo artist in Envigado, six miles southeast of Medellin.
Before putting him in an Uber to take him to the friend’s house, the woman advised him: ‘Please tell everyone, all your friends who come looking for prostitution and drugs, please don’t come.’

The alleged robbery is the latest incident in which tourists in Medellín have been victims of crimes in which they were drugged before being assaulted or murdered.

In January, Medellín police arrested Sharit Mejía and two men for the December murder of community activist and American comedian Tou Ger Xiong.
In response, the The US Embassy in Colombia warned travelers about using dating apps.
The embassy indicated that several of the deaths pointed to “possible drugs, robberies and overdoses and several involve the use of online dating applications.”
The embassy also advised American visitors that they should “seriously consider gathering only in public places and avoiding isolated locations, such as residences or hotel rooms, where crime is more likely to occur.”
“It is also recommended that if Americans decide to invite a person they met to a home or hotel, they speak with the attendant/concierge beforehand and establish a policy on what information their new visitor must provide before they are allowed entry ( identification photo, etc.) and what process should be followed when the visitor leaves,” the mission said.
