A pregnant woman and her husband-to-be drowned after a giant wave swept them onto rocks and into the sea.
Pedro David Guadarrama Ceron, 30, of San Jose, and Emma Nelly Diazleal Lopez, 33, were found floating face down off the coast of Santa Cruz, California.
The couple, from San Jose, were standing on rocks near Mitchell’s Cove, below West Cliff Drive, taking a photo when the wave swallowed them up.

Two Santa Cruz Fire Department rescue swimmers and two city of Santa Cruz lifeguards jumped into the water to search for the couple.
Both were floating in the water and unresponsive, so rescuers swam them to a waiting Harbor Patrol rescue boat.
“Advanced life support measures were immediately initiated while the victims were assisted aboard the vessel and directed toward port,” SCFD said.
‘Despite continued resuscitation efforts, both victims succumbed to the elements and could not be resuscitated.’
The family said the couple were engaged and recently learned they were expecting their first child.

SCFD warned beachgoers to never turn their backs on the ocean and to be aware of tidal conditions.
