A rapist who claimed he was too big to carry out a sexual attack has been jailed for abusing two women.

Lee Mulholland, estimated to weigh 175kg, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for assaulting and abusing his victims.

Mulholland said that if he had climbed on top of one of the victims, his size would have left her unable to breathe.

But jurors found the 38-year-old, from Armadale, West Lothian, guilty of raping her and the other woman.

He was also found guilty of controlling and abusive behaviour towards one of his victims.

The crimes occurred between 2019 and 2022 in West Lothian.

Mulholland, who at the time of the attacks was on trial for crimes against women at the High Court in Glasgow.

Judge William Gallacher also ordered the sex offender to be monitored for five years after his release because of the danger he poses.

Both women had previously recalled how they suffered at the hands of Mulholland during a harrowing trial in Livingston.

He was physically violent, calling them derogatory names and exploding in jealous rages.

Some of his actions were captured by a Ring doorbell that he had ironically installed to track one of the women.

He forced one victim to borrow money from relatives to pay for his yellow Ford Focus ST sports car with private registration plates after losing his job.

Mulholland was also violent toward a pet dog, grabbing its tail and standing on the animal’s legs.

Mulholland testified during the trial and claimed that any sexual contact was consensual.

In his closing speech, KC Ian Duguid asked the judges: “Is it physically possible for a 140kg man to climb on top of a woman who is only 1m 5″ tall?”

‘Her description was that she was traumatized because she couldn’t push him away and she couldn’t speak.

Mr Duguid told the court today/yesterday that Mulholland remains supported by his mother and partner.

Sentencing, Judge Gallacher told the sex attacker: “I have had the opportunity to consider the statements of these victims.

‘They eloquently describe the impact their behaviour had on them, both while the offences were being committed and in the long term.

“The responsibility for this falls squarely on their shoulders.”

Mulholland, who will be placed on the sex offenders list indefinitely, was also handed non-harassment orders prohibiting him from contacting any of the women.
