A young woman found dead in a burnt-out car near where her missing mother Samantha Murphy disappeared had feared for her safety, a source claimed, as the community rallied around her family.

The body of Hannah McGuire, 23, from Clunes, was discovered near State Forest Rd, near Scarsdale, south-west of Ballarat in Victoria, shortly before 10am on Friday, April 5.

Victoria Police arrested two Sebastopol men, aged 21 and 22, on Sunday afternoon.

The 21-year-old remains detained but the 22-year-old has been released.

A neighbor of one of those men told WhatsNew2Day Australia on Monday that McGuire had lived with one of those arrested and had recently moved away.

Only him and her lived there. But she moved out about a week ago,” he said.

A source told WhatsNew2Day Australia the break-up had been complicated, and it was claimed the young victim had recently applied for an intervention order against her ex-partner.

It is understood the woman’s boyfriend had lived at the Sebastopol property for just over a year, and her parents lived in a house a stone’s throw away.

Several neighbors said that they had shared ‘drinks’ with the woman’s boyfriend and that they thought he was a nice person.

But others claimed to have been wary of the man amid accusations he was a “hoon”.

“I saw him, a young guy, doing burnouts all over the street,” said a nearby neighbor.

Those claims were backed up by several other neighbors, who said the man routinely skated outside their homes.

While none reported signs of domestic violence coming from inside the property, several expressed concern about the number of young people visiting at all hours.

Police tape remained outside the home Monday afternoon.

Another neighbor said the property had been regularly visited by young people, who gathered in the backyard and in a large garage in the backyard.

That’s where Homicide Squad detectives are believed to have pounced on the men on Sunday.

“I heard a woman yell ‘leave him alone,'” another neighbor said.

The dead woman had been reported missing by a family member on Friday morning.

Firefighters found the woman’s remains in a burnt-out car around 10am and she was believed to have already died.

On Monday, police released the 22 years old while the 21 year old continues to help with his queries.

YoThis is the latest tragedy to hit Ballarat following the alleged murder of Ms Murphy.

Police arrested the mother’s alleged killer, Patrick Stephenson, 22, last month, but have not yet located her remains.

Ms Murphy disappeared while out on a morning run on February 4. Police allege she was murdered that day in Mt Clear, 15 kilometers from where the last woman’s body was found.

Anyone with information about this latest case is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
