Drew Barrymore defiantly removed her hair extensions on her ABC talk show during a candid conversation with Pamela Anderson about embracing natural beauty.
In a clip ahead of Tuesday’s episode, the host, 49, was in the middle of an argument with the former Playboy model, 57, when she stopped and removed the accessory from her scalp.
After taking out the hairpiece and throwing it around the studio, Drew shared that she had started wearing it due to perimenopause symptoms.
“I’m sorry, if we’re really going to be honest,” Drew said as he began to pull on his head, interrupting Pamela when she admitted that she would use makeup to become a character.
The host then began undoing the clips, prompting guest Valerie Bertinelli to exclaim, “I love you so much.”
Drew Barrymore Defiantly Removed Her Hair Extensions on Her ABC Talk Show
The presenter, 49, was in the middle of an argument with Pamela Anderson when she stopped and removed the accessory from her scalp.
“Oh my God, this is wonderful,” Pamela added. ‘Yes of course. Let it go. You don’t need that.’
Drew then explained, “So another really surprising symptom of perimenopause is that you start to lose your hair.”
“You have a lot of hair, your hair is beautiful,” Pamela observed, and Drew replied, “It’s good.” Not bad.’
Valerie, 64, joked: “You can have a face full of makeup and feel like the makeup is beautiful, but if you have a bad hair day, it’s like, no, it’s not going to happen.”
“And if you have a big hair day, you feel so much more confident wearing less makeup because you feel so good about your presentation that everything else falls into place,” Drew added.
Drew has been open about experiencing perimenopause symptoms in recent months.
In February, she announced that she had become a brand ambassador for Dr. Kellyann’s daily perimenopause and menopause supplement.
‘Yes, the dreaded ‘M word’ that we shouldn’t be ashamed of because EVERY woman is going to go through menopause!’ Drew captioned his post.
Drew threw the hairpiece across the studio after removing it from her head.
A stunned Pamela was stunned by Drew’s stunt and exclaimed, ‘Oh my god, this is amazing!’
‘Hormonal weight gain, hot flashes, sleepless nights, fatigue, mood swings. You are not alone and you don’t have to feel helpless once your body begins the transition.’
In one hilarious footage, the mother-of-two stood on a rooftop in a mustard-yellow coat as she joked: “I had to get out here and get something off my chest.”
“I’m not afraid of perimenopause anymore,” she then shouted cheerfully.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew, her guests, and the entire studio audience wore no makeup for the entire episode in honor of the beautiful, nude expert Pamela.
The ET star was also joined by Gillian Anderson and Gayle King for a no-holds-barred conversation about aging.
Elsewhere in her conversation with Pamela, the media personality explained what led her to travel without makeup.
“Well, it was Paris Fashion Week and I decided I was just going to a fashion show, I didn’t need to compete with anyone,” Pamela shared.
Drew has been vocal about perimenopause symptoms in recent months.
‘For example, why am I wasting three hours in a makeup chair when I’m wearing these beautiful Vivienne Westwood clothes and I didn’t realize anyone would notice?’
“So I thought when people started coming up to me and talking about it, I thought, well, this is a great message to really unravel it and find out who I was again.”
‘I wanted to remember who I was. I discovered that I played characters my whole life. I always wanted to be, you know, I was painfully shy as a kid and even doing Playboy, for example, was a huge leap of faith for me.
‘Just, you know, I was physically sick doing it, but I didn’t want to be shy anymore. And I thought, well, this is my fantasy of what a model is, or a playmate, or a rock star wife, or whatever.’
Pamela said she had been playing characters along the way and in recent years realized she had lost sight of who she was.
‘That’s when I returned to my garden and started planting things, getting into nature and returning to the trees that had known me since I was born.
‘I bought my grandmother’s property and renovated it and started getting it all back and then I started looking without makeup.
“And then I started realizing, ‘Oh, I feel cool like me,’ and I don’t want people to think of me as the other one, all those cartoon characters I created to protect myself, that’s what I think I did. You know, looking back, but this is the best time of my life.
“I feel so empowered, so free and so excited about life again.”
