Eugenie Bouchard spoke about how sex appeal is good for tennis and women's sports

Glamorous tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has given her insight into how sex appeal has helped her become more than just an athlete and is beneficial for women’s sports.

The 30-year-old Canadian also detailed how tennis is a great sport for ‘sex appeal’ and talked about the opportunities it provides outside of her field.

“Tennis, first of all, is a great sport for sex appeal,” Bouchard shared in an interview with YouTuber Valeria Lipovetsky. ‘We wear short skirts, we wear tank tops.

‘It’s fun to turn on the TV and watch that. I was immediately able to get great marketing deals off the court. I was asked to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue several times.

‘Exploring that path was definitely on my bucket list. It’s definitely part of who I am because I think it’s cool.”

Bouchard’s tennis career has been marred by injuries since she burst onto the scene in 2014. At age 20, she appeared in the Wimbledon final, but lost the Grand Slam match to Serena Williams.

However, Bouchard spoke about how modeling helped her transcend being a sports star. She also said that her activities outside of tennis helped broaden her fan base and draw more eyes to the sport.

“Why do I pigeonhole myself? Why not try to be bigger, better, transcend tennis or explore other fields?” he said. “Tennis is the only thing I know how to do, but it can’t be the only thing I do in my life.

‘I found it very interesting to appear in magazines or do fashion things and see that he also really enjoyed those things.’

‘(It’s) just increasing my fan base, my audience, which in turn helps me get better brand deals, better sponsorships. Not just in a personal sense for me, ‘Okay, I can make more money with this,’ but in a general sense, ‘Okay, we have someone who is maybe a casual fan coming to the Miami Open to watch.’ I play.”

“That’s good for tennis in general, for women’s tennis, for women’s sports, that’s good for everything.”

The former world No. 5 player has only taken up pickleball in recent years, but insisted her tennis career is not over in an interview with ESPN in January.

Bouchard’s last tour-level appearance was at the Guadalajara Open in September. Unfortunately, her run at the tournament ended in the round of 32 when she was eliminated by Veronika Kudermetova.
