Netflix viewers have been sent into shock by the new psychological thriller, Eric, which follows distraught father Vincent (Benedict Cumberbatch) in search of his missing son.
When Edgar (Ivan Howe, pictured) disappears on the way to school on the streets of 1980s New York City, his parents are left grieving and desperate.
This self-loathing father believes that if he gets to see his missing son’s big blue conception on his extremely popular children’s show, Good Day Sunshine, he will return home.
The longer Edgar is missing, the more violent and erratic Vincent becomes in his behavior.
As he gets further away from everyone trying to help him (detectives, his family and friends), the puppeteer begins to hallucinate a life-sized version of Eric.
Spinning out of control in the race to find his son, Vincent is forced to confront his demons on the dangerous but addictive streets of the Big Apple.
Creator Abigail Morgan told Tudum: “Eric is a deep dive into the Big Apple of the 1980s, dealing with rising crime rates, internal corruption, endemic racism, a forgotten underclass, and the AIDS epidemic.
‘(It exposes) the divisions that abound among parents searching for their son, a detective struggling with a broken system.
‘And a lost boy who may never come home and asks where the real monsters are. With puppets… many puppets.’
Netflix fans have been sent into a frenzy over the gripping new drama, with some calling for Benedict Cumberbatch to win an Oscar.
