New Delhi:

It’s time to sharpen your observation skills (from a respectful distance, of course) as Netflix unveiled the first look of Penn Badgley from the sets of you. His character Joe Goldberg returned to the streets of New York City, the iconic setting where the first season was filmed. “Back to where it all started,” Netflix announced in a recent Instagram post, revealing a series of on-set photos that heralded the start of production on the fifth and final season of the critically acclaimed series.

In the photos, Penn Badgley effortlessly embodied the essence of Joe. He kept his signature look by dressing in black pants and a structured jacket over a deep red henley, a discreet nod to his character’s tendency to blend into the urban landscape. With his hair neatly trimmed save for a single curl framing his forehead, the former Gossip Girl navigates the sidewalks of Manhattan.

While these images provide the first visual look at the series finale, Penn Badgley has already teased fans with hints about what to expect when Joe returns to the bustling metropolis after his adventures in Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and London. At Netflix’s TUDUM event in Brazil in June 2023, Penn said: “I hear you’re on the edge of your seat, waiting and theorizing about You’s epic conclusion. More importantly, considering what, or should I say who, Joe will encounter when he finally returns to New York. Although I can’t say who yet. We all know there are a lot of loose ends in Joe’s past. The question is, who are you?’

For the unversed, last season ended with Joe and Kate (Charlotte Ritchie) finding some semblance of harmony after embracing his dark tendencies, leaving fans curious about their fate in the series finale. While specific plot details for the upcoming season have been kept tightly under wraps, a casting reveal has emerged that sees Madeleine Brewer joining the cast as Bronte, a “free-spirited and mysterious” playwright who Joe encounters.

Their paths intertwine as she takes a job at Joe’s bookstore, leading to a bond formed through literature and shared experiences of loss, which ultimately sparks nostalgia in Joe and prompts him to question his journey – suggesting that Bronte is a will have a profound influence on his trajectory. The release date for the fifth season of you is yet to be announced.
