Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par, continues to resonate deeply with Indian audiences. The film is cherished for its compelling storyline, compelling performances and moving themes. Tisca Chopra’s portrayal of Maya Awasthi, the mother of dyslexic child Ishaan (Darsheel Safary), has left an indelible impression on the viewers. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Tisca shared a funny anecdote. She said that Aamir Khan once humorously suggested that they should have sold tissues with the movie tickets to double the proceeds. She said, “One day Aamir called me and said that we should have also sold tissues with the movie tickets so that we could have earned double the amount. Even Karan Johar had tears in his eyes after watching the film.’

Reflecting on her experience working on the film, Tisca Chopra, who later ventured into directing and producing, described it as an invaluable learning experience under Aamir’s tutelage. She fondly recalled, “Aamir Khan was a school. I went to Aamir Khan film school. He was very meticulous even though it was his first film. He too learned things and we were all part of this process. He would involving us in blocking, distributing the shots, choosing lenses, etc. I could identify with that kind of authenticity and love for cinema.

Tisca Chopra debunked the common perception that Aamir Khan wants to work with due to his meticulous nature. She said: “Because I am also meticulous and I like that kind of work style. I ended up annoying him by asking for reshoots of my photos many times, saying that I could do better. It was a great experience. He worked so hard for every part of it, to the point where it couldn’t be improved upon.”

On her career trajectory after Taare Zameen ParTisca Chopra said, “It not only changed my career path and brought me international recognition, but it also brought about many changes in the education system and inclusivity. It also proved that there is a good balance between creativity and commerce.”
