The top baby names have been revealed and a surprising girl’s nickname rises up the list for the first time in years.
The New South Wales Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages has revealed the ten most popular baby names given to Australian children in the state in calendar year 2023, with Oliver and Isla leading the way.
Oliver had held the number one spot for the boys since 2014, but was replaced by Noah in 2022, who has since fallen to second place.
The top two girl names, Isla and Amelia, were separated by only four registered births. The most popular girl’s name of 2022 was Charlotte, which fell to fifth place in 2023.
In addition, ten new names have entered the women’s top 100.

Cleo and Amara, who have risen 61 and 54 places respectively since 2022, made their way into the top 100 at 87 and 68, making them the fastest climbers.
The former name Delilah also gained popularity, rising 35 spots from #90 to #55 most used in 2023.
Other new names on the list are Maisie, Margot, Lucia, Lottie, Kaia, Callie, Kiara and Zahra.
Meanwhile, for the boys, Miles rose the most, rising 39 spots to 62nd place.
Seven other boys’ names also made the list in 2023: Isaiah, Darcy, Tommy, Spencer, Parker, Mateo and Marcus.
Parents have often shared their difficulties with naming their children online, and many even change their minds once the child grows up.
While many were previously concerned about the extinction of trendy baby names in Australia, some classics also appeared to drop out of the top 100 list.
Riley, Gabriella, Harlow, Claire, Anastasia, Leah, Charlie, Elodie, Jasmine and Quinn have given up their crowns.
Boy names falling out of favor and out of the top 100 include Christian, Nicholas, Hamish, Vincent, Connor, Ashton, Dylan and Julian.
