The son of Premier League cult hero Tim Cahill has followed in his father’s footsteps by joining an English top-flight club after signing for Nottingham Forest.

Shae Cahill, 19, has signed a two-year contract with Forest after a spell in Australia with Brisbane Roar.

The central midfielder was supported by his father and Everton legend Tim, 44, as he was officially unveiled in the East Midlands on Thursday.

The former Socceroos captain shared the exciting news on Instagram: “Congratulations,” he said. “We are all very proud of you and are enjoying this next chapter.”

Shae, who played in the Toffees’ academy before moving to Brisbane, told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy and excited to start this new chapter with Nottingham Forest. I want to thank everyone at the club and my family for supporting me.

‘My goals are to train hard and dedicate myself to being the best I can be, making both my family and the football club proud.’

Shae will start at the academy and hopes to make his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s first team.

“We are delighted to welcome Shae to Nottingham Forest and are excited to see how he integrates into the B team group,” said the club’s academy director Chris McGuane.

‘Shae has first team experience in Australia and joins the Club eager to improve as a player.’
