A San Diego police officer resigned after it was discovered that he locked himself in the back seat of his patrol car with a woman who wanted to have sex with him after he arrested her.
The incident, which was largely captured on body cameras, begins after Officer Anthony Hair arrested the unidentified woman because she was suspected of stealing a car on August 15, 2023.
The suspect, who was wearing a red tank top and red shorts, was one of two people wanted for the car theft, but she also had a warrant for her arrest.
Hair was supposed to take her to police headquarters and then to the Las Colinas Detention Center in Santee.
As they drove back to the police station, the woman began propositioning him for sex.

She asks if he’s married, to which Hair wants to know why she’s asking him.
‘You’re not that bad. What will harm me if I work with the system? You know what I mean? “That’s how I see shit.”
Then he asks, ‘Are you single?’ To which he replies: ‘Yes, but you’re not.’
His shocking response: “I’m going to screw myself right now.”
“Don’t say that now… Don’t say that now because everything is being recorded right now,” Hair said.
As they continue toward the detention center, he can be heard asking her what she is doing in the back seat.

Hair then began driving his patrol car down a residential street, according to his GPS, and turned off his body camera.
The story picks up about 20 minutes later, when Hair calls a fellow cop, admits that he had locked himself in the back of his police car, and asks if he had a master key that could open it.
The unidentified fellow officer described Hair as panicking.
‘I asked him if he was okay. He said yes, and then he asked me if he had the key to my patrol car with me… I asked him why he was asking and what he needed. “Then Officer Hair asked me if he could come see him,” he said.
‘I asked him his location and he said, near Cottonwood… I asked him why he needed me and he said he would tell me when he got there. He said he was really embarrassed.

Shortly after, the police officer arrives at the scene and opens the back door to discover Hair and the woman together in the back seat.
When they found him, the officer had been locked in with the suspect in the back of the car for more than an hour.
Hair denied anything untoward had happened and repeatedly said he was “checking on” the suspect when the door accidentally closed and the camera went off because he had knocked it down.
‘When I was waking her up, that’s when I noticed this door close behind me. That’s when she was trying to open the door,” Hair said.
The suspect also stated during an investigation that nothing inappropriate had happened between them, but that he hoped they could meet when she was released..

Hair resigned from his job about a month after the investigation began and a day before he was scheduled for an interview with Internal Affairs.
“He wanted to be with me when I was done with the warrant or whatever I was arrested for,” the woman said.
However, upon investigation, traces of semen were discovered on Hair’s belt after he was found. She was asked to recreate the time they spent together as part of the investigation.
