An Eithad plane with almost 300 passengers on board was forced to abort takeoff after its landing gear caught fire, causing two wheels to explode.
Etihad Airways flight EY461 bound for Abu Dhabi was just minutes from takeoff at Melbourne Airport on Sunday night when the drama unfolded.
Images from the scene show the plane on the runway surrounded by fire trucks.
Firefighters deployed firefighting foam as a precaution.
The Boeing plane has two flat tires and remains stuck on runway 34, which is currently closed.
The pre-flight emergency has caused long delays in departures and arrivals at Melbourne Airport.
More to come.
