Tesla has recalled more than 35,000 of its electric cars due to a manufacturing defect that causes the hood to lift up while the vehicle is being driven.

Model Y and Model 3 cars manufactured between 2020 and 2024 are being recalled due to this issue.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the hood latch assembly may not sense when the driver opens the hood and therefore may not warn the driver of ‘hood open,'” the recall notice states.

‘If the vehicle is driven with the hood open, the hood could open abruptly while driving and obstruct the driver’s vision.’

In total there are 34,993 vehicles with this defect.

Teslas with software version 2024.20.3 can drive without problems, the company said.

The car manufacturer will contact owners whose vehicles are to be recalled.
