In her caption, Taylor shared her enthusiasm for the film and the source material. She revealed that she wrote the song solo with Folklore and Evermore collaborator Aaron Dessner who produced the song.

“Where The Crawdads Sing is a book that I was completely absorbed in reading it years ago,” Taylor wrote.

“As soon as I heard there was a movie in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it musically.”

She continued: “I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it.

She added that it was shot with instruments available before 1953, in keeping with the time period in which the film is set. Carolina was also recorded in just one take, as was the standard with songs from the era.

“The first time I listened to it, I just started roaring and I said, ‘I don’t know what’s happening to me now,'” Olivia said.

“I mean, I like to sing along to Taylor Swift songs, but I never cry like that.”

Reese explained the backstory of how the pop superstar was inspired to write the song.

‘She read this book and loved it so much, and then she heard we were making a movie [during the period] she was making her Folklore album and then she wrote a song with that whole Folklore team, which was so terrifying and magical and beautiful,” said the Big Little Lies actress.

Olivia added: “She had started writing this song out of sheer inspiration and basically said, ‘I don’t know if you’ll like it, but here it is.’

The director confirmed that Carolina will be playing over the end credits of the film. She explained that they wanted the tone of the film’s ending to match that of the book’s conclusion.

“We wanted to leave the audience with that same kind of emotional feeling,” Olivia said.

“And her song builds on exactly that.”
