Suspicious teenage murder is on suicide guard after & # 39; his mother, baby nephew and sister killed & # 39;
This mugshot made available by the Pittsburgh Sheriff shows suspicious triple murder Matthew Bernard, 18, from Keeling, Virginia
The 18-year-old man accused of murdering his mother, nephew, and sister, who is the wife of a pitching prospect in Tampa Bay Rays, is in custody in custody.
Matthew Bernard ran naked through the streets during a police chase in Keeling, Virginia, on Tuesday, before he was struggled by a police dog and arrested.
A mugshot made public on Wednesday afternoon by the Sheriff & # 39; s office in Pittsburgh shows Bernard dressed in an orange prison robe.
His head, both his ears and part of his throat can be seen in the photo covered with white gauze bandages. Some scratches are also visible on his forehead.
At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Pittsburgh Sheriff Michael Taylor revealed that Bernard injured himself by hitting his head against a cage in a police vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Bernard was transported to first aid and later transferred to a regional hospital to be examined and treated for his injuries, after which he was booked in jail on Wednesday at 3 o'clock. He keeps suicide behind bars.
Bernard has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
Blake Bivens, a 24-year-old pitcher with the Ray & # 39; s Double-A branch of the Montgomery Biscuits, heard a few hours before a planned double header about the slaughter of his family.
A vigil was held on Wednesday evening in memory of the killed family of Bivens, which was characterized by prayer, song, writing and sobs.
The gloomy meeting was held at The River Church in Danville, Virginia. About 50 mourners spread among the benches in the church when senior pastor Jackie Poe led those present in prayer for the Bivens and Bernard families.
Poe called people to the steps of the altar, and while some people dabbed the tears from their eyes, sniffs and sobs were audible.
The vigil was held hours after a press conference where the Pittiff County Sheriff Michael Taylor discussed some details of the murders.

His wife Emily, the 14-month-old son Cullen, and Emily's mother, 62-year-old Joan Bernard, were found dead in their home.
Authorities say they still don't know the motive behind the student's murder & # 39 ;, after a family member told DailyMail.com exclusively that he was struggling with mental illness and & # 39; came to a breakpoint & # 39; .
At the press conference, Sheriff Taylor admitted that the police were still trying to find the answers & # 39; & # 39 ;.
& # 39; We won't comment on the why, because we don't know it yet. We're trying to figure that out for ourselves, & he said during the briefing in Chatham, Virginia.
& # 39; I think (Bivens) has questions, just like we are all doing right now. & # 39;
The 18-year-old is faced with three counts of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm during a crime, suggesting that he shot his victims. Taylor said the motive is still unclear in the triple murder.
Bernard is being held pending his first trial.
Matthew & # 39; s uncle, Bryant Bernard, spoke to the station WSLS after the dramatic shot of his cousin, who was playing in front of news cameras, saying he was stunned by what was happening.
& # 39; In my wildest dreams I could never have imagined. Not him. From all people in this world. I could never have imagined it, & # 39; Bryant said.
The uncle said that Matthew is a student at Danville Community College who regularly attended church.

The college was closed during the one-hour search for Bernard in the aftermath of the murders.
& # 39; This boy is a Christian. Went to church every Sunday, every Wednesday, every Sunday evening. Taught youth groups. In my opinion, just a perfect child, & said the suspect's uncle.
The police have said nothing about a possible motive so far, but Bryant has revealed that last week his cousin had entrusted his mother with having bad dreams. He didn't go into details.
Jenn Stallard, Matthew's cousin, issued a statement exclusively to DailyMail.com, blaming his actions for mental health problems. She also shared a family photo of Blake, Emily, baby Cullen, Joan Bernard and Matthew, all together in front of the camera, flanked by a dozen other family members.
& # 39; Matthew was a wonderful soul and person, & # 39; she wrote. & # 39; He always smiled and loved his family. Matthew was a very active member in our church, along with his family and thoroughly involved with the youth. Because all this is still happening and many things are happening, it is displayed very wrongly.
Matthew was a student at a community college. He went to church and taught youth groups
& # 39; Unfortunately he suffered from mental illness and came to a breaking point. Matthew is my cousin and I will love him and be there for him if I am ever able, because what the public has seen was not him at all and as a family we would never have imagined that this could have happened.
& # 39; Because all of this is still extremely fresh for our family, I remain cautious that our words are not twisted, nor that our family's name, including Matthew's, is tormented more than it has already done. My biggest concern would be to emphasize that mental illnesses have no type and awareness of help when needed. & # 39;
The victims were first publicly identified as members of the Bivens family by ESPN reporter Jeff Passan.
The police did not publicly explain how they believe the murders were committed, although they claimed that Bernard was armed with a gun.

& # 39; Earlier today we heard that Blake Bivens, a pitcher at our Double-A branch, the Montgomery Biscuits, had undergone a terrible family tragedy in southern Virginia, & # 39; said the Rays in a statement.
Bivens throws in 2016 for the Single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods. He went to Double-A through the organization and is considered a hot prospect
& # 39; Our hearts are broken for Blake. We grieve with him and will support him in every possible way. We ask that everyone respect the privacy of the Bivens family and the Biscuits family in this extremely difficult time, & the statement continued.
The Biscuits canceled both games scheduled for Tuesday on the news of the murders.
Bivens, a right-handed pitcher, was selected by the Rays in the fourth round of the First-Year Player Draft 2014 of the Washington High School in Danville, Virginia.
Bivens married his wife Emily in 2016. Their son Cullen Micah Bivens became one in June, according to social media reports.
Emily was a photographer and devout Christian, showing her Facebook page.
Jackie Poe, the senior pastor of The River Church in Danville, told the AP on Wednesday that Blake Bivens was an old member of the church and that he and his wife Emily would come to the services during the off-season baseball.
Emily and young Cullen are watching one of the Bivens games earlier this month. The mother and child were brutally killed on Tuesday morning
Bivens can be seen in a Charlotte Stone Crabs uniform with his wife and son last year
& # 39; He is a fine young man, & # 39; said Poe. & # 39; Just a good example of a young man in baseball. And just a good Christian young man. & # 39;
& # 39; His wife was just a great young lady. If he was out of season, they would be in church. & # 39;
Poe said that the parents of Bivens & # 39; are just completely shocked and destroyed and still hold on to their faith and trust in God & # 39 ;.
The church planned to hold a community prayer on Wednesday evening.
& # 39; That's what we do, & # 39; said Poe. & # 39; And that's the answer. There are no other answers for a tragedy like this. & # 39;
Emily and Bevins married in 2016 and their son was born in June 2018
The tragic case unfolded on Tuesday morning at about 8 o'clock in the morning, when a neighbor saw Joan Bernard's body in the driveway of a house on Keeling Drive in Pittsburgh, Virginia.
Police and paramedics rushed to the stage and found two extra bodies of Emily Bivens and her 14-month-old son in the house.
Bernard was immediately mentioned as a suspect and the police issued a public warning to watch the teenager.
& # 39; He is armed with a gun and is considered very dangerous, & # 39; said the warning.
Within a few hours, Bernard was seen in the area, completely naked.
