New Delhi:

Sushmita Sen never shies away from talking about her personal and professional challenges. The actress, who survived a heart attack in 2023, recently opened up about how the incident “should have happened.” In a conversation with Pamper ExpressSushmita says, “Being fit doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t have hiccups, whether genetic or otherwise. In my case it was genetic, as both my parents have heart disease. Because it runs in the family, we have tested for it long enough. Despite that, it happened. I think it was meant to happen. The fact that I survived and recovered quickly is a huge blessing, and I wish that for everyone who suffers the same.”

“It taught me that life has a pace, and no matter what you’re going through or what environment you’re in, you have to go at that pace, and you have to be extremely aware of what your body wants – it gives you cues. I’ve always celebrated life, so that hasn’t changed. But I have definitely become more aware of my body and its needs,” Sushmita Sen added.

In the same conversation, Sushmita Sen also spoke about her fitness routine post-surgery. She said: ‘My fitness routine is very slow. February of this year marked one year since my heart attack, and the return to a fitness regime has been gradual. It’s mainly warm-ups and stretches, with a little bit of floor exercise. I can now use weights, so strength training has been introduced. I can’t really do anything too static, the movements have to be dynamic. I’m not allowed to run, but I can run tempo. In addition, the medications have side effects. So you have to deal with that and listen to your body and what it makes you do on any given day.

Earlier in an interview with Hindustani times, Sushmita Sen revealed that she had filmed a scene Aarya 3 (pictured in the trailer) shortly after experiencing the heart attack. The actress said, “It was cathartic in a way because all the action you see in the trailer was shot a month after my heart attack. So when Aarya is shot, she falls to the ground and gasps for air, in a In a crazy way, it was just like real life, ultimately arriving at a beautifully cathartic unison feeling. As dark as that sounds, I think it was a whole new beginning for me. Both personally and for Aarya on screen.”

Sushmita Sen’s latest project Aarya 3 is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The series also features Vikas Kumar, Ila Arun, Vishwajeet Pradhan and Sikandar Kher in pivotal roles.
