"Surprised" Shikhar Dhawan's Honest Admission On LSG Star Mayank Yadav's Pace | Cricket News

Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan praised Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav and said the youngster bowled well with his pace. The Punjab-based franchise suffered a 21-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Dhawan said during the post-match presentation that Liam Livingstone’s injury ‘hurt’ during the match. Concluding, the skipper said that the team management will ‘analyze’ their two consecutive defeats.

“They played well, shame Livi (Livingstone) got injured, that hurt us, he would have been on 4. We started well but Mayank bowled well with his pace. It was fun to watch him, I was surprised by his pace” but I wanted to use his pace against him but he bowled the bouncers and the yorkers well. I was very conscious, asked the batters to use the short side and use his pace, but he bowled into his body (after Bairstow’s dismissal) and took him out, I also told Jitesh. But Mohsin bowled very well, he kept a good length and suffocated us. We will have to analyze these defeats, the drop catch cost us some momentum. That’s something we did. I will have to improve in future,” Dhawan said.

A recap of the Lucknow-Punjab match: Fiery knocks from Quinton de Kock (54 runs off 38 balls), Nicholas Pooran (42 runs off 21 balls) and Krunal Pandya (43* runs off 22 balls) took the hosts to 199/ 8 .

Sam Curran led Punjab’s bowling attack after scalping three wickets from his four-over spell. Arshdeep Singh took two wickets after delivering three overs. Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar could manage to take just one wicket in their respective spells.

In response to LSG’s 199 runs, PBKS openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Naistow started the chase with a positive and aggressive approach. Both batters put on a 50-run partnership in the 5.1 overs. Dhawan hit a boundary off the bowling of left-arm Mohsin Khan.

Mayank took his first wicket of his IPL career when he dismissed Bairstow on the fourth ball of the 12th over. The right-hander was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs off just 29 balls, each of which had three fours and three sixes in the innings. He built an excellent partnership of 102 runs with Dhawan.

Soon after Mayank’s first wicket, the momentum shifted to the LSG side as the hosts were successful in registering a 21-run win over Punjab.
