To speed up the ripening process of avocados, place the unripe fruit in a brown paper bag along with an apple or banana for two to three days until ripe.

Storing a whole, ripe avocado in the refrigerator will help maintain optimal ripeness for two to three days until you are ready to eat it.

Sprinkle the sliced avocado with lemon juice or vinegar to prevent it from browning, place in cling film and remove all air and store in the refrigerator.
