Amethi, Uttar Pradesh:

Union Minister Smriti Irani, who has taken a promise to the people of Amethi to establish family ties with her constituency, has become an Amethi voter.

According to Vijay Gupta, representative of the MP, Smriti Irani applied to become a voter after getting a house for herself in Gauriganj village in Medan Mawai here. She is now a voter of the village, he said.

Smriti Irani considers Amethi as her family. She built her home here to live with the Amethi family, he said.

With the construction of the house, she had begun the process of making herself an Amethi voter. The formalities have now been completed, Mr. Gupta said.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Welfare Smriti Irani has become a voter at booth number 347 at Medan Mawai village in Gauriganj assembly hall, which falls under Amethi parliamentary constituency, he said.

The Congress has not announced any candidate from Amethi so far. It is not yet clear whether Rahul Gandhi will contest the elections from the seat.

The elections in Amethi will be held on May 20 for the fifth phase.
