Shanahan reveals miraculous location where Pearsall was shot Originally appeared in NBC Bay Area Sports
By Ricky Pearsall road to recovery After being shot last weekend, it’s a miracle in itself.
The 49ers rookie was shot during an attempted armed robbery On Saturday near Union Square in San Francisco, the bullet passed through his chest without damaging his vital organs.
And if the story couldn’t be more remarkable, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan added another layer that ties perfectly into the hallowed situation.
“Once everybody got in, nobody knew the exact story, so I was able to assure everybody as soon as they got in that he was completely fine,” Shanahan told reporters Thursday while recalling the 49ers’ team party that same Saturday night. “It’s a miracle. The spot where he got shot is like two inches below his tattoo with his praying hands. The whole story is pretty amazing.
“But it was great to be able to tell everyone when they arrived. And then about two hours later, Ricky got on FaceTime and talked to everyone.”
Shivers.
Pearsall, the 49ers’ first-round draft pick in 2024, will miss at least the first four games of the season. Shanahan said the plan for the rookie wide receiver is to take it easy for now before the 49ers consider his rehab and potential timetable for returning to the field.
Just five days after the shooting, Pearsall was… Back to the 49ers practice field talking to his teammates and throwing soccer balls.
“He’s a very tough person I know, just from going through a situation like that,” Shanahan said. “We always feel that way seeing him on the football field and stuff like that. But to see how he handled that situation and how he’s been every day since, it just shows how special he is.”
The 49ers placed Pearsall in the non-football related reserve/injury list The earliest he could return to the field on Monday would be for the Oct. 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium in Week 5.
